Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road, also called Surfcoast Highway, is one of the main attractions of Australia. My idea was to rent a car and drive on it. But, unfortunately, I forgot my drive license at home. So, I decide to get a tour. The pro side is that you don’t have to worry about driving, about maps, about which side of the road to go… The down side is that you have quick stops in each place, it is the fast tour: get out of the bus, take a photo, hop on the bus again…

The road was constructed between 1919 and 1932, when soldiers came back from Turkey from the World War I (The memorial to the soldieries reminded me my visit to Gallipoli in Turkey).  Our fist stop was Bells Beach, an Australian icon for surfing. Getting there, our tour guide played the audio of Point Break, a movie by Kathryn Bigelow with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves, Bells beach is the location of the huge surf wave...

Praia de Pipa

On my arrival in Pipa I was welcome by the people from the hotel. They advised me to go for a walk to Praia do Amor and showed me the path. I walked to the beach and sat down in a bar on the shore. The day was beautiful, sun, sea, beach, fruit juices… Since my knee was hurting and swollen, I stayed there for a while. On my second day, I left early morning for a walk to Tibau do Sul (about 7km). In the hotel I had seen the tide table of that day and I would have plenty of time to get there before it was high tide and I could not go through the rocks. I started my walk on Praia Principal. Since it was early, there was not many people around, they were all waking up. There were many fishermen and parents with small kids. Further on I saw a group playing soccer on the beach. They were organized in teams with uniforms...

Trujillo and surroundings

I arrived in Trujillo at 4am. As I was the only person to get off the bus that was going to Lima, once again, I suffered the fight of taxi drivers for my backpack. This time I got a little scared because I was not in a bus terminal, I was alone in a dark street. I decided not to argue and let them fight to decide who was going to take me. Well, the louder one earned.

To visit the ruins I didn’t want to get a tour, I decided to go by myself. In the morning I visited the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna. It is not known if they really were temples of the sun and moon. The name was given by the Spaniard when they arrived in the place and they thought these were Inca constructions. They did not know these were constructions from the Moche period, from hundreds of years before Incas.

Only one of the temples is opened to visits. I could see the different rooms, the sacrifice place and where they had found ceramic, skeletons and objects in gold, silver and copper...
