Koh Samui – Mae Nam

Koh Samui was our first place for “vacation”. Before, our trip had been busy and tiresome. Coconut and fishing were the main activity on the island (koh); nowadays it is a tourist paradise. This, therefore, would be a perfect place to start to relax. In general, the hotels were small, there were many resorts but one doesn’t see the big towers of a chain hotel. I read that here it was not allowed to construct hotels higher than coconut trees, what I consider brilliant.

People told us that it was the rain season. We check on the internet for the weather forecast and it said cloudy and rainy days. We were luck because it rained only a few hour when we arrived and on the day of the departure. The rest of the time we could enjoy the beach, relax on the hotel’s sun bed, sleep in the coconut shade and sea bath. This was what I missed the most. The beaches in Europe don’t give you that kind of pleasure. It is impossible to compare.

Walking on Mae Nam beach we saw pieces of wood full of shells stick to it. We also saw a plastic sandal covered by seashells. I had never seen that and I loved it because made me think on the nature’s strength. It was as if the sea would take all the garbage thrown by the humans and it transformed it into something beautiful. It gave the feeling of being almost impossible to damage the beauty of the place.

Our hotel offered transport to Chaweng, the main beach in the island; we use it to visit the place. Chaweng was a beautiful and wide beach. The streets are full of shops, restaurants and bars. It is a busy place, different from the tranquility of where we were staying.

We rented a car to better see the island. We stopped on different points to observe the landscape: Hin Ta & Hin Yai, Laem Set, Thong Krut, Wat Hin Lad, Hin Lad Waterfall, Nathon’s port, and finally, Laem Yai. We spent the day visiting beaches, going into the sea to refresh and end up in a restaurant north of Nathon to enjoy the sunset. We liked the place so much that we decided to stay two days longer. Maxim had been sick on the first days, so we could not do all we had planed. Consequently, we decided to extend our stay on the island that, pleased us a lot…
