The main reason for visiting Utila island was diving. I had seen on the internet that April was whale shark season in the region. So, my vacation destination was chosen for me. My dives there were with Utila Dive Center. On the first day we been to two incredible places: Pinnacle and Ted’s Point (info below). Right on the beginning of the dive we saw a wreck. I love boat, any sort, above or under water.

The corals were beautiful, different formation, like flowers, tress, branches…There was not a huge amount of fish, but we saw some school of small fishes, a sea horse (they are not easy to spot, the divemater showed us), and the most interesting, an octopus. Generally they are hidden o a hole. Luckily, not this time. I was a bit away from the gruop taking photos when I saw an octopus passing by me “flying”. It was gorgeous, I have never seen an octapus like that, it was dancing in the sea. Made my day!

When I read about “Um Lugar na Janela” in an airline magazine, I wished to buy it. I had read another book by Martha, and liked. So, the expectations were good.

The book promises to be a selection of travel stories, not a guide. It is a personal and introspective report of moments lived in different places, among them Rio, Fernando de Noronha, Japão, Nova Iorque, Marrocos…

In the first chapter, the author states her reasons to travel, something that I share with her. But after that, the book disappoints. Created initially to be a blog, I believe it had to continue that way. It is different the way we read a blog and a book, at leat it is what I think. In a book I want a more elaborated text, mor interesting in terms of content and form. I don’t know how to write, I’m awful on that, so I photograph. However, when I read (and love reading), I want text that I could say: “I’d love to have written that”. But this did not occour in any moment of “Um Lugar na Janela”.

I was impressed by the amount and quality of the graffiti in Melbourne, specially around Fitzroy. The neighborhood is an ecletic mistures of cafes, shops and vintage places, and here the street art goes with this variety with colors, shapes and shadows. It is like an organic garden of collors invading the squares architecture of the neighborhood. With this diversity of street art, Melbourne is considered the  “Stencil Graffiti Capital,” not only Fitzroy but all over the city one can find different types of stencil and graffiti. I saw that there was some tours to see the work of these street artists, a tip could be the “Melbourne Street Art Tours”. I didn’t take the tour. In general I don’t like guided tours, and I imagine that the way I would enjoy these artwork would be different in a tour. I prefer to go without a group, on my pace, and if interest me, if I need no know more, I can came back to the place (or museum) and then, on the second visit, I take the tour...

I always liked cities with a river, in my imaginary I have some of the famous European cities and their rivers: Paris, Berlin or London. The Yarra river is a landmark of Melbourne city. By its shores passes cyclists, tourists, runners, and you can see all kinds of boats, specialty the big rowing boats. The landscape is also seductive, large modern buildings, small houses, trains, trees, parks, bridges… Well, maybe that is why Melbourne is considered the most European city in Australia.
